Following the unfortunate incident that took place on Saturday evening, the management of the Teok Tea Estate has declared lock-out of the estate till further notice. The management decided not to run the TE in view of the attack on the medical staff as well as on the senior manager of the TE, who had come to resolve the unruly incident.
According to a notice issued by managing authority of the Teok TE, the locked-out workers will not receive any wages and other benefits till the lock-out remains in force. The management has asked for written assurance of discipline and good conduct from the workers.
However, the medical services, water and electricity supply, watch and ward staff deployed on security duties in offices and bungalows were kept out of the lock-out notice.
It may be mentioned here that the incident took place after a patient named Samara Manjhi breathed his last at the hospital. The attendants and locals alleged that there were no doctor and nurse when they admitted the patient. Following the death of the patient, the angry locals brutally beaten the hospital authority and Dr Deben Dutta. During the incident Dr Dutta sustained serious injuries and referred to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), but unfortunately, he expired while undergoing treatment.
