Assam’s third Bihu festival, known as Kati Bihu or Kongali Bihu, is being celebrated across the state on Friday.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal extended their prayers and best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of Kati Bihu hoping that the festival will bring in peace and prosperity in the state.
On the occasion of Kati Bihu, women, both in urban and rural areas, try to ward off evil and pray for a rich harvest by lighting earthen lamps.
This is the first time the Assam Government has celebrated Kati Bihu in Majuli. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took part in the event.
State Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Industries, and Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and AGP president Atul Bora wished the people of the State on the occasion of Kati Bihu.
In a statement, Prof. Mukhi said, “Since Assam has an agrarian economy and majority of the people of the State are dependent on agriculture, celebrations of this Bihu holds immense importance. Hope the auspicious lamp given in the fields consign the insects and help in giving high yields”.
