Majuli's Dr. Amrit Kumar Saikia and social worker Basaram Baruah have been respectively honored with the APJ Abdul Kalam International Award and Life Time Achievement Award by Samata Sahitya Academy.
The awards were given on Sunday (June 9, 2019) in a program organized in Gangtok.
The awards were given out by Dr. DS Tandekar.
The awards include a trophy, a certificate of appreciation and a 'cheleng sador'.
Bhutan's former education minister Thakur S Powdel was also present in the ceremony along with a host of other dignitaries including Sikkim's Food Security and Agriculture Development & Horticulture minister Lok Nath Sharma, former Speaker of Sikkim Assembly Bhabani Shankar Gurung among others.
People of Majuli has expressed their immense happiness after Dr. Saikia and Basaram Baruah were honored with the awards.
