MoS Water Resources visits Manipur: Takes stock of flood situation

Union Minister of state for Water Resources Arjun Ram Meghwal is on a two day visit to Manipur and as a part of his visit, took stock of the flood-affected areas and the major dams of the state on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, Meghwal said that central government is concerned about the situation in the northeast. The visit will help to relay the ground reality and severity of the damages done by flood to the higher officials at the centre, he added.

Meghwal had also assured that the ministry will look into the matter and provide necessary funds to restore normalcy at the earliest adding that his visit is to look for a long term flood mitigation policy for the state as the present central government does not believe in mere short term measures.

He said that the government is committed to bring development to the North East region to address the developmental deficit.

During his visit, Meghwal met the aggrieved victims of the flood whose houses have been swept away by the flood. He empathised with their grievances and had assured adequate assistance to them as early as possible.
