Mumbai building collapses killing 2, over 40 trapped

A four-storey building in South Mumbai's Dongri collapsed, at around 11:40 am today, killing two persons and more than 40 feared trapped under the debris.

According to reports, three NDRF teams has reached following which they have started looking for survivors. They have been able to rescue five

It may be noted that the building was 100 years old. The area had been flooded due to heavy rains in the past weeks, which had dilapidated buildings on narrow lanes.

Due to narrow lanes, ambulances and fire trucks had to be parked a little far away from the building.

Showing the Mumbai spirit, locals formed a human chain to pass down small debris such as wooden blocks and bricks, with their bare hands, out of the area.

As per authorities, it was a "level 2" incident, just below the level 1, which is the most serious under the system that measures the severity of a building collapse.
