Nawazuddin’s McMafia Wins at International Emmy Awards


BBC One’s criminal underworld series McMafia, featuring Bollywood star Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has won the best drama series at the International Emmys.

Four Indian shows were nominated in five different categories; that included Lust Stories (best TV movie/mini-series and best actress for Radhika Apte), Sacred Games (best drama series), The Remix (best non-scripted entertainment) and Witness: India’s Forbidden Love (best documentary).

Meanwhile, Siddiqui after winning the award said, “It’s a pure delight to be receiving the beautiful winner trophy at the International Emmy Awards Gala in New York with one of my favourite Director James Watkins for our work.”

It may be mentioned here that the international Emmys reward TV programmes made outside the US.

  • Performance by an actor: Haluk Bilginer in Şahsiyet (Persona)
  • Performance by an actress: Marina Gera in Orok Tel (Eternal Winter)
  • Short-form series: Hack The City
  • Arts programming: Dance or Die
  • Non-scripted entertainment: The Real Full Monty: Ladies Night
  • Comedy: Especial de Natal Porta dos Fundos (The Last Hangover)
  • Non-English language US primetime programme: Falco
  • Documentary: Bellingcat – Truth in a Post-Truth World
  • Telenovela: La Reina del Flow (The Queen of Flow)
