Coordination Committee(CorCom), a conglomerate of major militant groups operating in Manipur andUnited Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has imposed a generalstrike on August 15, to boycott the Independence Day celebration in the region.
In a joint statement e-mailed to the media, the CorCom andthe ULFA (I) gave a call for a 17-hour general strike from 1.30 am to 6.30 pmon August 15.
However, essential services, flood relief works, health,electricity, water supply, fire service, press and religious ceremonies andpractices have been kept outside the purview of the strike.
