An alert was sounded this evening in Lakhimpur districtafter North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (Neepco) opened the No 4 gate ofRanganadi Hydro Electric Power Project this afternoon.
Neepco sources said the water level touched extreme level at the RHEP dam today following heavy rain on the hills, forcing it to open the gates to release the pressure on the dam's reservoir. A gate of the dam was opened around 2.45pm.
A Neepco official said the administration of neighbouring districts have been alerted about the decision to release water.
