In the Match day 10 of Hero I-League, Manipur’s NEROCA FC got the better of Kolkata heavyweights Mohun Bagan by a margin of 2-1 in a mid season encounter played at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal on Friday. The home team opened the scoring with Brazilian defender Eduardo giving NEROCA the edge in the 24th minute.
Mohun Bagan looked very sharp offensively but could not capitalize on their chances. Egyptian midfielder Omar was a key figure for Bagan in the midfield. In the second half, Bagan got the equalizer via Ugandan striker Henry Kisseka in the 63rd minute. However the lead was short lived as Aryn Williams helped NEROCA to grab a second and the potential winner in the 69th minute.
In the last quarter, both sides got their chances but failed to score on clear chances. While Malemnganba missed for NEROCA in the 78th minute, Dicka failed to guide one easy header inside the net in the 85th minute that could have rescued a point for Bagan. With this win, the Orange Brigade are positioned at 3rd spot with 18 points from 10 games while Mohun Bagan remain 5th having secured 15 points from as many games.
