NEUFC defeat Mumbai City to enhance Play-Off hopes
After registering a crucial 2-0 away win against top guns Mumbai City FC, visitors NorthEast United are an inch closer to qualifying for the Play-Off spots for the first time ever in the history of the Indian Super League. Wednesday evening saw Mumbai City succumb to their third consecutive defeat in four matches since the league resumed post-winter break.
WHAT A WIN! ?
Dominating display by the #Highlanders as they take all 3 points away from @MumbaiCityFC. It's 2-0 in favour of @NEUtdFC at full-time and we are back to 2nd position on the points table. ???⚪️⚫️#HighlanderBrigade #NEUFC #WWTTT #8States1United #MUMNEU pic.twitter.com/mgzVnmmAEX

The Highlanders made early inroads after experienced midfielder Rowllin Borges managed to place one right at top corner as early as in the 4th minute after Keegan Pereira cut back brilliantly from the wide. The Mumbai side pressed in occasionally with their frontmen in Sougou, Issoko and Bastos. However the equaliser was far from reach. In the 33rd minute Bartholomew Ogbeche netted his 12th goal of the league and gain temporary lead in the race for the Golden Boot.
Mumbai tried several hands in their attempt to salvage a point at least, but Eelco Schattorie’s bravehearts defended valiantly. NorthEast are currently on 27 points from 16 matches and require 3 points from the remaining two games to seal the Play-Off position.
