01. Assam's Longest Served CM Tarun Gogoi Passes Away At 86

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi passed away on Monday. He was 86. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, daughter-in-law and grand-children. Gogoi was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to ICU on November 1 for the second time after he recovered from COVID-19.

Tributes are pouring in for former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi who passed away on Monday evening at 5:34pm after a prolonged battle with illness. President Ram Nath Kovind condoled the former CM's demise on twitter and said that "the country has lost a veteran leader with rich political and administrative experience".

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in an official statement, said he is deeply mourning the demise of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi. Gogoi breathed his last today evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) at 5:34pm.

04. CM Sonowal Visits GMCH To Pay Respects To Gogoi

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) to pay his respects to the departed soul of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who passed away today at 5:34pm after a prolonged battle with illness. While addressing the media present there, he said he has lost a "father figure" today and added that the state government as well the state itself will be in mourning for the coming three days.

05. Gogoi Resolved Economic Crisis, Secret Killings: Assam Congress

Assam's opposition leader Debabrata Saikia, while mourning the death of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday, said that Gogoi resolved the economic crisis and secret killings in the state with great efficiency when he assumed power. He added that Gogoi was "Bhishma Pitamaha" for the Congress workers in the state of Assam. "I am distraught at the demise of our esteemed leader, Tarun Gogoi, who was the only person to become the chief minister of Assam for three successive terms," the Congress leader said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday declared its first list of candidates who will be contesting in the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) election 2020 which is scheduled on December 17. 07. Tezpur: American Man, His Wife Found Murdered

In a shocking incident, an American man and his Indian wife were found murdered at their house in Tezpur on Saturday night. According to police, the bodies of Bryan Arij (80) and his wife Asha Arif (65) had injury marks and were found in a pool of blood at their house in Tezpur after neighbours complained that the couple was not seen for more than a day.

08. SC Seeks Status From Assam Over COVID Situation

The Supreme Court of India on Monday has asked the state governments of Assam, Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat to present a detailed report on the steps taken by the respective states to combat coronavirus pandemic. A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan has also sought reports on also the steps that is intended to be taken.

09. Bharti Singh, Her Husband Granted Bail In Drugs Case

Television comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa, who were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday, have been granted bail by the magistrate's court today (November 23). The couple was booked after the NCB raided their house and office and recovered 86.5 grams of marijuana. They were arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act in a case of alleged possession and consumption of ganja.

11. Jorhat: Dead Body Found Floating In Pond

A dead body was discovered floating in Jorhat's Raj Mao pond on Monday by a jogger who was on his morning walk. The deceased was identified as one Dhiraj Baruah. Police recovered his body from the pond after being informed of the same. As per reports, Dhiraj owned a business named "Olympica" in the town. It is suspected that he may have tripped and fell into the pond while he was on his morning walk.

In a major boost to the healthcare system in the northeastern region, Guwahati's Excelcare Hospitals have performed a Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) recently. The complex surgery was performed by the CTVS team of Excelcare Hospitals led by Dr. Manuj Saikia, Dr. Intekhab Alam and Dr. Dangeti Santhosh Kumar (Consultant Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeons, Excelcare Hospitals), an official release stated.

In a latest development, former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi's wife Dolly Gogoi's health has deteriorated after listening to the sad demise of her husband, according to sources. The veteran Congress leader passed away at 5.34 PM on Monday in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

14. Assam Detects 169 New COVID Cases, 1 Death

169 new coronavirus cases were detected in Assam out of 25225 tests conducted on Monday, with a positivity rate of 0.67 %. Out of the new cases, 56 patients were tested positive in Kamrup Metro. The total active cases now stood at 3179.
