01. IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall In Assam & 6 Other States

The Indian Meteorological Department on Saturday forecasted a heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Gujarat and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam.

02. GATE 2021 Dates Announced

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, or IIT Bombay, has announced the dates of GATE 2021. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, or GATE, will be held over February 5-7 and February 12-13.

03. Manipur Congress Notice To 2 MLAs For Cross-Voting In Rajya Sabha Polls

The Congress in Manipur has issued a show-cause notice to two of its MLAs for allegedly cross-voting in favour of the BJP in last month's Rajya Sabha election that saw the BJP win the state's lone seat in the upper house. The notice was issued to Wangkhei MLA Okram Henry and Sagolband MLA R K Imo Singh.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has recommended to the Union Home Ministry that cinema halls all over the country be allowed to reopen in August. The halls remained closed for 3-4 months amid the coronavirus pandemic.

07. Haryana To Host Khelo India Youth Games 2021

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday announced Haryana as the host state for the fourth edition of Khelo India Youth Games which is currently scheduled to take place after Tokyo Olympics. The Games will be held in Panchkula in Haryana.

08. MMCH: 40 Beds To Come Up For Women, Children

A 40-bed exclusively for women and children is being set up at the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) in Guwahati. The state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Saturday, "Pleased to share that a 40-bed dedicated #Covid19 Hospital only for women and children at MMCH will get functional soon. Visited the Hospital and reviewed ongoing work and facilities".

Students across Assam are expressing rage over the conduct of exams by universities and colleges, and have taken it to Twitter with #NOEXAMINASSAM campaign demanding the cancellation of final year and end semester exams due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and escalating active cases in the state.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday highlighted the national capital's COVID-19 situation in the past one month by stating only 9.77% active cases of the disease is present. The Drug Controller General of India has cancelled the rapid diagnostic kit import licenses of three firms and suspended that of 16 others saying the USFDA has removed the manufacturers from their list of coronavirus serology test kits with directions that they should not be distributed.
