01. Educational Institutions Likely To Open From Sept: Himanta

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the educational institutions are likely to reopen from September. He said that the government is hopeful that the COVID-19 cases will be reduced gradually after which the schools and colleges will be functional again.

02. Government Bans Additional 47 Chinese Apps

The government has banned an additional 47 Chinese apps in India. Earlier, the government banned 59 Chinese apps to "protect national interest and security" including the hugely popular TikTok app. Now, almost 50 more apps have been banned, for operating as clones of the previously banned apps — the list of particular apps banned in the fresh decision is yet to be announced.

03. Assam: Another 7 Succumb To COVID-19

Assam on Monday reported seven deaths of COVID-19, informed state Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through his twitter handle. The death toll due to the novel coronavirus pandemic in the state climbed to 86.

04. Guwahati: Section 144 Imposed Under Central Police District Areas

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central District has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Guwahati in order to prohibit the spread of COVID-19 and to prevent any loss of human lives due to the deadly virus as many groups of persons, associations, political organizations are likely to disturb the normal functioning of offices, movement of public and traffic flow in the areas under Central Police district.

05. Flood Situation In Assam & Bihar Remains Grim

Although the flood situation in Assam has improved a bit, still 22 districts are reeling under flood. On Sunday, 25 districts in the state were submerged underwater. Meanwhile, over 15 lakh people spread over 625 panchayats in eleven districts are reeling under the impact of the flood in Bihar.

06. India's COVID-19 Case Fatality Rate Dipped To 2.28%

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday informed India's Case Fatality Rate is progressively falling and currently, it is 2.28%. Presently, India has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world. The total recoveries are beyond 9 lakh and the number currently stands at 9,17,567. The Recovery Rate of the country is 64%.

07. Mayawati's BSP May Ally With BJP In Court

In Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's struggle to retain his narrow majority after a rebellion by his sacked deputy Sachin Pilot, a new case is in court. Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which lost all six Rajasthan MLAs to the Congress last year, has approached the High Court. The BJP had challenged the merger of the BSP MLAs into the Congress before the High Court last month. The BSP today asked to b e allowed to be party to the same petition. The move implies that Mayawati is willing to join forces with the BJP in the legal fight against the Congress.

08. Won't Contest Elections As Long As J&K Remains A Union Territory: Omar Abdullah

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, who walked out of detention in March after nearly eight months, has said that he would not contest any Assembly elections as long as Jammu and Kashmir remains a Union Territory. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister was in detention since August last year when the Central government announced to revoke Article 370 that accorded special status to the state and bifurcate it into two Union territories.

09. COVID-19 India: Nearly 50,000 New Cases Recorded Today

The number of coronavirus cases in India surpassed 14 lakh after a record spike of 49,931 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday morning. The country's coronavirus tally stood at 14,35,453 now.

10. Cricket World Cup Super League Begins With England-Ireland Series

The forthcoming ODI series between England and Ireland, beginning on July 30, will officially start the Cricket World Cup Super League, the International Cricket Council confirmed on Monday. The World Cup Super League, announced first in June 2018, was introduced alongside the Test Championship to provide context to ODI cricket by acting as a qualification pathway to determine participants for the 2023 Men's World Cup in India.

Actor-singer couple Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have made donations towards Assam flood relief measures and have asked their fans to do the same. Taking to social media, they shared a couple of organizations that one can make donations to.

12. India Hands Over 10 Diesel Locomotives To Bangladesh

India on Monday handed over 10 broad-gauge diesel locomotives to Bangladesh, strengthening the neighbouring country's railway infrastructure. The physical location of the handover was the Gede station of the Eastern Railways in West Bengal's Nadia district and the receiving station was Darshana in Bangladesh. 

13. Vande Bharat: Phase Five To Begin From August

The fifth phase of the Government of India's "Vande Bharat" mission, that aims to evacuate Indian nationals stranded in various foreign countries due to restrictions on air travel in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, will begin early next month, August 1.

14. China Reports Highest Spike In Covid-19 Cases Since April

China recorded 61 new coronavirus cases on Monday, the highest spike the country has seen in a single day since April. It is the highest daily tally of new virus cases since April 14, when 89 cases, mostly imported, were recorded.

15. Assam Youths Launch New Website To Showcase Assamese Film

Two Assam Youths Tridip Goswami and Subhasish Sen have launched a new website www.thejollywoodcafe.com on Sunday to showcase the Assamese Films on digital platforms. Filmmaker Rima Das, the director of Village Rockstars and Bulbul Can Sing launched the website via Facebook live.
