01. NIA arrests DU professor Hany Babu in Bhima Koregaon case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested an associate professor of English of Delhi University Hany Babu Musaliyarveettil Tharayil in connection with the Bhima Koregaon Elgar Parishad case for allegedly inciting people and giving provocative speeches in Pune on December 31, 2017, which led to violence resulting in loss of life and property and statewide agitation in Maharashtra.

02. Erosion Included As A Natural Calamity By 15th Finance Commission: Sarbananda Sonowal

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday said that the 15th Finance Commission has included erosion as a natural calamity in the government relief manual. He observed that the recent move of the Commission would facilitate the flow of a substantial amount of funds for erosion protection.

03. ROBOTS To Clean Drains In Guwahati

For the first time in the North-East, the sewage in drains will be cleaned by robots. GDD Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Tuesday inaugurated the first-ever sewage cleaning robot in Guwahati. The robot named 'BANDICOOT' has been procured by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) along with six Skid Steer Loaders (mini loaders) from JCB and six Backhoe Loaders from CASE and BOBCAT companies each.

04. Businessmen Are Mostly Infected With COVID: Himanta

Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the businessmen and vendors are mostly infected with COVID-19 in Guwahati due to the non-wearing of masks. The minister asked all the traders to get the tests done from August 1 as the government has set up 100 screening centers across the city.

06. Maoist With Rs 6 Lakh Reward Killed In Encounter In Maharashtra: Police

An ultra, with a reward of Rs 6 lakh, was killed in an anti-Maoist operation in Maharashtra earlier this month, the Gadchiroli police said on Tuesday. Deputy commander of Gatta Dalam Amol Hoyami, 21, was killed in an exchange of fire with the police in the jungle under Hedri police help centre in Mauza Yeldami on July 3, an official said.

07. Assam: 2 More Succumb To COVID-19, Toll At 88

Two more persons succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday who were admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, taking the death tally to 88, informed state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through his twitter handle.

08. West Bengal Extends Complete Lockdown Till Aug 31

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced the extension of complete lockdown in coronavirus containment zones in the state till August 31. The chief minister also said that the state will continue to go under a complete lockdown twice a week.

09. NSCN (R) Militant Nabbed In Arunachal

A cadre of the NSCN (Reformation) outfit has been arrested in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, the state police informed on Tuesday. A joint team of Assam Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force personnel launched an operation based on a tip-off and nabbed the militant in Changlang town on Monday evening, district Superintendent of Police (SP) Mihin Gambo said.

10. Kaziranga: 137 Animals Die In Floodwaters

The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve on Tuesday stated as many as 137 animals including fourteen rhinoceroses and 101 hog deer have died due to the devastating heavy floods that have submerged 75 percent of the national park.

The novel coronavirus epidemic in India is now the fastest-growing in the world with an increment of 20% over the last week which counted to more than 1.4 million confirmed positive cases, according to the data stated by Bloomberg's Coronavirus Tracker on Tuesday.

12. Nearly 3 Million Affected By Floods In 12 Districts Of Bihar

According to the bulletin by the Bihar Disaster Management Department, more than 5 lakh people were affected by floods on Tuesday alone, taking the tally of marooned people to 29.62 lakh in 12 districts of the state. A total of 24.42 lakh people were hit by the floods in 11 districts till Monday.

13. Last Surviving Daughter Of Nizam Of Hyderabad Passes Away

Sahebzadi Basheerunnisa Begum, the last surviving daughter of Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last ruler of the erstwhile Hyderabad State, passed away at her residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday. She was 93 and is survived by her only daughter.

14. Ashok Gehlot's Brother Summoned Today By Enforcement Directorate

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's elder brother Agrasain Gehlot has been asked to join investigation in an alleged money laundering case linked to the fertiliser export scam that took place between 2007 and 2009. The Enforcement Directorate has summoned him for questioning on Wednesday.

15. Air Pollution Cuts Global Life Expectancy By Nearly 2 Years

Air pollution cuts life expectancy for every man, woman and child on Earth by nearly two years, according to data released by The Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) on Tuesday which experts said showed poor air quality is "the greatest risk to human health".
