01. BJP Leader, Family Members Shot Dead By Militants In J&K

Jammu and Kashmir BJP leader Sheikh Wasim, his father and brother were killed by militants late Wednesday night in the Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipore district. J&K Police stated Wasim and his family were attacked at around 9 PM outside a shop near the local police station. All three were rushed to Bandipore district hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

02. COVID-19: Assam Loses Eighth Patient In 24 hours

Assam has lost its eighth patient to the deadly coronavirus in the last 24 hours. 19-year-old Monika Bhumji of Sivasagar succumbed to Covid-19 on Wednesday evening at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. Bhumji was already suffering from anemia and sepsis.

03. Disciplinary Action Against Cops For Partying During Lockdown

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the state home department to take disciplinary action and transfer ten policemen for partying on a cruise ship in violation of lockdown and curfew. A published news report on July six showed photographs of a group of officials partying on a cruise ship on river Brahmaputra in Guwahati.

04. Centre Nods Extension Of Government Support To PF contributions 

The Union Cabinet approved the proposal to extend the scheme for payment of the employer and employee's Provident Fund contribution by three months until August. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced in May that she was extending the scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana by three months, giving relief to 3.67 lakh employers and 72.22 lakh employees.

05.CBSE Syllabus: Secularism, Nationalism, Foreign Relations Among Chapters Dropped

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reduced its syllabus for class 9 to 12 students by up to 30% for the 2020-21 session to make up for the academic loss and reduce the course load. Some of the chapters removed from the syllabus include secularism, nationalism, federalism, demonetisation, GST, India's foreign relations with neighbouring countries, and citizenship.

06. Sholay's 'Soorma Bhopali' Actor Jagdeep Passes Away

Veteran actor-comedian Jagdeep born as Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri on 29 March 1939 dies at the age of 81. He passed away at 8.30 pm last night at his residence in Bandra. Popular for playing 'Soorma Bhopali' in Sholay, Jagdeep appeared in more than 400 films.

07. "Asia Cup Is Cancelled", Says Ganguly

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, yesterday announced that the Asia Cup 2020 which was scheduled to be held in September has been cancelled. The announcement comes ahead of a scheduled Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting on July 9.

08.PM Modi To Address 5000 Participants From Over 30 Nations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the inaugural address on Day 1 of India Global Week 2020. A three – day virtual conference themed 'Be The Revival : India and a Better New World', India Global Week 2020 will have 5000 global participants from 30 nations being addressed by 250 global speakers across 75 sessions.

09.US Notifies UN of Withdrawal From World Health Organization

After threatening to suspend $400 million in annual US contributions and then announcing a withdrawal, the Trump administration has formally sent a notice to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The withdrawal from WHO would be effective in one year — July 6, 2021.

10. Operation Samudra Setu Completes, Nearly 4,000 Indians Evacuated

The Indian Navy has completed Operation Samudra Setu, which began on May 5, by bringing nearly 4,000 Indians back home from Maldives, Iran and Sri Lanka in five repatriation trips. Indian Naval Ships Jalashwa, Airavat, Shardul and Magar participated in the operation which lasted over 55 days.

11. Govt To Rent Out 4 Lakh Flats To Migrant Workers

The cabinet approved development of Affordable Rental Housing Complexes for urban migrants, students and poor. The government will rent out 1.08 lakh flats of one room, in cities like Mumbai and Delhi and construct more such complexes to rent out another 3 lakh flats to those coming from rural areas and small towns. 

12. Guwahati: Vegetable Price Touches Sky-Rocket

The citizens of Guwahati are in a dilemma as the price of vegetables in Guwahati touched sky-rocket. On the one hand, the people are facing lockdown and on the other, the price of vegetables has soared high in the market that people are giving a second thought to buy. Although the government has fixed the rate of vegetables, the vendors are charging a double price for the vegetables.

13. Tripura: Jetty Built To Start Indo-Bangla Waterway Project

A jetty was constructed on the river Gomati in Tripura's Sipahijala district to start a part of the Indo-Bangla waterway project which would help connect Sonamura with Daudkandi in Bangladesh, a distance of only 80 kilometres.

14. US Student Visa Barb: Harvard, MIT Sue Trump Administration Over New Rules

Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have sued the Trump administration over its order to clear out international college students of their US visas and deport them if their courses go entirely online due to coronavirus. The universities, in a lawsuit filed on Wednesday requested a temporary restraining order to pause the July 6 government order.

15. WHO Team To Visit China To Trace Origin Of COVID-19

A team of World Health Organisation (WHO) experts will visit China to trace the origin of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The disease, which originated in Wuhan city of China, has killed over 500,000 people in the world, and cases and deaths are increasing by the day.
