North and South Korea meet for military talks

North Korea and South Korea have come together on Thursday for a high level military talk between the two countries

The two sides are set to discuss ways to relieve tension in the Korean peninsula, to avoid accidental military clashes along the maritime demarcation line, and implement the agreements reached at the Inter-Korean Summit.

The South Korean delegation is being led by Major General Kim Do-gyun, an official of the defence ministry, while the North Korean team is being supervised by Korean People's Army Lieutenant General An Ik San.

A significant part of the discussion would be on recovery of the remains of the fallen soldiers from the Korean War in the demilitarised zone.

North Korea is expected to seek a halt of joint military drills between Seoul and Washington DC, an issue which has caused tensions in the Korean peninsula in the past.
