Amid ongoing protest over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Assam as well as in other parts of the North East, the National Peoples Party (NPP) of Meghalaya has threatened to end alliance with NDA if the much debated Bill is passed in Rajya Sabha.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP chief Conrad Sangma on Saturday said, "The party took a unanimous resolution to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and based on that decision a resolution passed. If the bill is passed, the NPP will break its ties with the NDA." The decision was taken during the party's general body meeting on Saturday.

The contentious Bill was passed in Lok Sabha earlier in January.
