NRC: Assam Government Files Plea for Re-verification

The Centraland State Government of Assam has expressed dissatisfaction over NationalRegister of Citizens' (NRC) ahead of 20 days of the publication of the finallist of NRC on July 31.

The central and state government has expressed dissatisfaction over NRC at a time when there is only twenty days left for publishing of the final list. The NRC authorities have also declared that they will publish the final NRC on July 31 as per the instruction of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, filing petition by both state and central government regarding re-examination of names published in the draft list on July 31, 2018, is something which is very mysterious. Both the central and state government asked the Supreme Court to instruct the NRC authorities to re-verify 20% names published in the draft list from Assam's border district and 10% names from other districts.

The government has also asked the top court if it could be possible to re-verify 20% of the names published in the draft list of NRC from the district where it has been reported an increase in the number of population.

However, theapex court might change the date of hearing of NRC after the central and stategovernments have filed the new petition.  

Moreover,the Supreme Court was about to hear the ongoing process of NRC work on July 10but the court has not provided any new notice for hearing.
