In yet another sensational incident in the State, a person identified as Rahim Uddin, has attempted to commit suicide in Udali area near Lanka town in Hojai district on Saturday due to frustration over National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Rahim narrowly escaped death when he was admitted to a hospital as he consumed poison after increasing possibility of his name being cut off from the NRC list.
According to reports, Rahim appeared in the hearing of NRC claims & objection, where he was informed that his father, Late Basir Uddin’s name was listed as Basir Ali in the voter list. The NRC authorities allegedly threatened him of Rs. 50,000 fine and jail term. Following the development, Rahim had filed an application in the Circle Office. But upon invited to the Circle Office, anxious Rahim tried to commit suicide.
Luckily, Rahim rushed to a hospital in Hojai, where he is undergoing treatment.
