One more person lost his life within in last 24 hours due to flood in Dhemaji district, informed Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). More than 14 lakh people in 2,168 villages under 25 districts of Assam are currently affected by the flood.
The flood-affected districts are: Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh, West Karbi Anglong, Kamrup, Cachar, Dhubri and Tinsukia.
The ASDMA informed that River Brahmaputra is flowing above danger level in Jorhat, Sonitpur, Kamrup, Goalpara and Dhubri districts. Similarly, Burhidihing river in Dibrugarh, Subansiri in Lakhimpur, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur, Kopili in Nagaon, Puthimari in Kamrup, Barak in Cachar and Karimganj, Beki River in Barpeta, Katakhal in Hailakandi and Kushiyara in Karimganj districts are flowing above danger levels.
20,047 people are currently taking shelters in 62 relief camps in Biswanath, Sonitpur, Baksa, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Hojai, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday took stock of the flood situation in Assam in a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
