Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the Fit India Movement at a programme in New Delhi. The Prime Minister said that fit mind in a fit body is very important.
A colourful programme in connection with the launch of the movement was organised, where various Indian dance forms including Assam’s Bihu, indigenous martial arts and sports were presented.
During his speech, the Prime Minister paid his tribute to greatest hockey player of India, Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary, which is celebrated as National Sports Day. PM Modi said, “On this day, a great sportsperson was born, Major Dhyan Chand. He amazed the world with his fitness, stamina, and hockey stick.”
He asked everyone to take up sports and said, “Sports has direct connection with fitness. Fitness is necessary for a healthy life.” Urging people to participate in the movement, the Prime Minister said that the Fit India Movement is not a government mission, rather government will only act as a catalyst.
PM Modi also congratulated the winners of the national sports awards and lauded India’s sporting achievements. Reportedly, the entire programme has been conceptualised by the Prime Minister himself.
