Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, paid tribute to soldiers and praised them for their sacrifice towards the country on the 20th anniversary of the Kargil War.
Sharing pictures from his visit to the area during the Kargil war in 1999 on his post, saying his interactions with the soldiers are still "unforgettable" on twitter.
In the photographs, he is seen interacting with army men and meeting wounded soldiers.
In his tweet, he also wrote, "this was the time when I was working for my Party in J&K as well as Himachal Pradesh. The visit to Kargil and interactions with soldiers are unforgettable", he said.
During the war, the Indian Army evictedPakistani intruders and succeeded in recapturing Tiger Hill and other posts asa part of 'Operation Vijay'. Indian soldiers had secured this victory after athree-month conflict that led to a loss of lives from both sides; the Indianside lost nearly 490 officers, soldiers, and jawans.
The war memorial has around 500 tombstones with the name of soldiers inscribed in them. The Indian armed forces had defeated Pakistan on July 26, 1999. Since then, the day is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas. Indian Army is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kargil War today to rekindle the pride and valour of the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay.
