The Karbi Anglong police have filed chargesheet on sensational 'Dokmoka mob lynching of two youths' at the district CJM Court, in Diphu on Saturday. The gruesome murder of two Guwahati youths by a mob near the Kangthilangso waterfall in Karbi Anglong district had shocked the nation.
The Chargesheet filed by police was of 844 pages, case diary of 104 pages and two cases were registered under IPC 302, 341, 427, 143, 144, 149 and CRPC 109. Assam police constituted an SIT ( Special Investigation Team) to fasten the inquiry on the sensational murder of two Guwahati youths by a mob.
" From our side , we have filed the chargesheet on the Dokmoka incident at the Court today. We have arrested 48 persons involved in the case. The SIT we formed had completed the investigation task", said Kula Saikia , DG of Assam Police.
The mob-lynching of two youths from Guwahati — Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das – near Kangthilangso , a remote village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district of the state occurred on June 8 last.
The mob had suspected the youth to be child lifters in the wake of rumours being circulated on social media. Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das were on way back to Guwahati from a spot they had gone to visit in a Mahindra Scorpio when they were intercepted and accosted by a mob at around 8 pm.
A disturbing video that emerged in local media showed the two youths begging for mercy – their face and body smeared with blood. Nilutpal kept pleading, "I am an Assamese. My father's name is Gopal Chandra Das and my mother is Radhika Das. We came here during the day time…"
But the mob continued to hit them mercilessly until they lay motionless on the road. Villagers cut off Nilutpal's dreadlocks and they were found on the spot along with their belongings stained with blood.
There were more than 200 people in the mob as told by members of the village defence party.
