Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced that a sum of Rs 10 lakh would be awarded to the police team that busted a clandestine heroin lab and seized drugs worth of Rs 100 crores (at the international market) last month.

Interacting with the media at CM Bungalow, Biren Singh said that the operation was a part of the initiative taken up by the incumbent government as a part of its "war against drugs."

The CM was referring to the June 29 crackdown by Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) personnel carried out along with Thoubal district police.

"This is the biggest ever drug bust in the history of Manipur and also the first time that a clandestine drug lab was busted," NAB SP W Basu had said after the operation.

It may be mentioned here that the combined team led by NAB Additional SP Th. Brinda, officer-in-charge NAB CB Rishikesh Sharma, and Thoubal police Addl SP S Sachidananda under the supervision of the SP himself was able to bust the clandestine laboratory at the residence of 40-year-old Mohammad Matalip.

The SP further informed that in its effort to nab the accused, the police was assisted by a group named Anjuman Ishla-e Muashra which works for social welfare in Manipur.
