Meet Prabhakar Deka, class X pass, agriculturist, who sells "Apple Berry" worth Rs12 lakh in a year and now added Dragon Fruit to his expanding agro business,putting into shame many SMEs.
This is a classic case how anyone with a dream can do anything. Prabhakar out of school went astray and went to the jungles to join Karbi militants but left it within a year. With no land and no educational qualification, he was wandering when a chance visit to his friend at Udalguri opened his eye about the Apple Berry cultivation.
"I do not have land and my father helped a lot and then I took 10 bigha of land for 10 year of lease and started the Berry plantation. This year I sold Berry worth Rs 12 lakh and that will increase in the next few years" he said adding that he is confident of doing well in the agro business.
He is into value added products for better price. Now he has added Dragonfruit and so far planted nearly 400 of them. He feels that in 5 year, thedragon fruit will have an annual turnover of Rsd 20 lakh.
Assam Government has already acknowledged his achievementand today he is considered one of the rare success stories of Morigaon district.
"If I can achieve this, anybody can achieve this"he said with great confidence. With noincome Tax and no GST for agri product, he made a cool profit of this huge turnover considering the low input cost.
