After a gap of 231 years, the breakfast menu for inmates in Bangladeshi jails has been changed.

Under the new menu, the inmates will receive bread and vegetables for four days, khichdi for two days and halwa and bread on the other days of the week.

The Home Minister of Bangladesh Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal introduced the new menu at Keraniganj Central Jail during an event on Sunday morning.

“It will be gradually introduced in all the 13 central jails and 55 district jails in Bangladesh,” officials said.

It may be mentioned here that prisoners were served flour bread and jaggery as their morning breakfast since 1788. The amount specified for prisoners was 116.6 gm of flour bread and 14.58 gm of jaggery, while it was 87.68gm of flour bread and same amount of jaggery for detainees under trial, which was insufficient.
