The process of upgrading the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) is going on in full swing and its 336 bedded new hospital building is almost complete, said Tezpur BJP MP R P Sharma on Tuesday.

During the laying of the foundation stone event of the Central Library and Informatics Centre building of LGBRIMH, Sharma said that the new hospital is almost ready to serve the entire Northeast region with all the facilities for treatment of psychiatric disorders.

A new academic building, cafeteria, hostels and residential quarters have already been completed, Sharma added.

Sharma had also informed that the project had been sanctioned by the Centre after the submission of a memorandum to the Prime Minister and Union Health Minister during the last Parliament session.

LGBRMH Director Dr Sailen Deuri stated that the Informatics Center is set to be one of its kinds in the region with facilities for teleconferencing, telemedicine and telecommunication.

The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 23.43 crore and would be completed within a period of two years from the date of commencement of construction, Dr Deuri informed.

A 100-bedded Neurology and Neurosurgery Block as well as a Sports and Recreational Facility will soon be coming up in the LGBRIMH in phases for the all-round development of the institute, he added.
