Protests, bandhs lowering investment in Assam: Patowary

Assam Minister of Industry and Commerce, Chandra Mohan Patowary on Thursday said that protests and bandhs have resulted in lower investments in the State. Answering a question in the Assam Assembly, Minister Patowary said, “The continuous protests across the State have stopped investments in Assam.”

“The investors do not want to invest in an unrest State like Assam,” said the Minister and added, “We hope more investors to come and invest in the State, but they are likely to invest after protests across Assam come to a halt.”

The Minister further informed the Assembly that there was Rs 51,604 crore invested in Assam by investors from outside the State. Patowary said, “We have spent Rs 41 crore in Advantage Assam, which is very less in comparison to other State, who spent around Rs 200 crore to Rs 300 crore in such investment summits.”
