Public Hearing To be Held On AA Clause 6

The High-levelcommittee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord on Sunday said that there will be apublic hearing on implementation of the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord in ameeting held at Administrative Staff College, Khanapara.The committeesaid that the next meeting will be held on September 6.In the thirdmeeting that was held on Saturday, it was speculated that the committee mightprepare a route map for its functioning so as to recommend measures for theimplementation of Clause 6 of the Accord.TheGovernment of India has constituted a High Level Committee comprising ofeminent personalities of Assam representing various walks of life to assess theappropriate level of reservation of seats in Assam Legislative Assembly andlocal bodies for the Assamese people and to suggest measures to protectAssamese and other indigenous language of Assam.The Committeewill recommend appropriate level of reservations in employment under theGovernment of Assam for the Assamese people and suggest other measuresnecessary to protect, preserve and promote cultural, social, linguisticidentity and heritage of the Assamese people. The panelmembers include Ramesh Borpatragohain, Advocate General, Assam; Niloy Dutta,Advocate General, Arunachal Pradesh; Subhash Das, IAS (retd); PallavBhattacharya, IPS (retd); Dr Srishtidhar Dutta, retired professor; SumantaChaliha, author and columnist; Dr Jaikanta Sharma, professor and columnist;Wasbir Hussain, senior journalist; Samujjal Bhattacharya, chief adviser, AllAssam Students Union (AASU); Dipanka Nath, president, AASU; and LurinjyotiGogoi, general secretary, AASU.
