Rabha Divas observed across Assam

To commemorate the contribution of cultural icon of Assam – Kalaguru Bishnu Prashad Rabha, several organisations, schools and colleges across the State on Thursday observed the 50th Rabha Divas.

The Assam government has organised a programme on occasion Rabha Divas in Rongjuli. The Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Award 2019 will be conferred upon mask artisan Reba Kanta Mahanta and Manipuri dance exponent Laitjonam Ebampisok Devi during the programme. Similarly, the AASU has organised central Rabha Divas in Pathsala town. Programmes were also being organised at other places in the State.

Born on 31 January 1909 in Dhaka, Bishnu Prasad Rabha is one of the pioneers of Assamese music and art. The music composed by the multifaceted artist is known as ‘Rabha Sangeet’.
