Rahul Gandhi, Amit Shah in Mizoram

Indian National Congress (INC) President Rahul Gandhi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah have lined up a series of public meetings in Mizoram for the November 28 elections. While BJP President Amit Shah will address three public meetings in the state today – Lawngtlai, Champhai and Vairengte, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will address two rallies in Champhai and Aizawl.

According to reports, Amit Shah arrived at the Lengpui airport near Aizawl and later travelled to southernmost Mizoram's Lawngtlai, Myanmar-border Champhai and Assam border Vairengte by helicopter to address public rallies.

He came to Aizawl from Vairengte where he would release the BJP's manifesto/vision document for the state before leaving for Delhi.

It may be noted that Mizoram is the only state where Congress is in power in the North-East at present and hence its great challenge for the party to defend its fort.

Addressing the rally, Rahul Gandhi said, "I am happy to say that the Congress government under Lal Thanawla has brought economic progress for the people of Mizoram. In the last ten years the per capita income of the state has doubled… It makes me very proud to tell the people of Mizoram that the per capita income of the state is higher than the national average."

What matters to us is your way of looking at the world, your history, you culture, said Gandhi.

The INC chief also slammed RSS-BJP saying that RSS-BJP knows they are unlikely to win the next election; not only in Mizoram, but in India.
