The Tinsukia Division of Northeast Frontier Railway staged protests on Thursday against Narendra Modi-led BJP government’s decision of reviving premature retirement plans for central government employees who have completed 30 years in service or reach 50 years of age.
Hundreds of Railway workers shouted slogans against the government. “This is a conspiracy by the government to eliminate over 1 lakh employees of the national transporter,” said an employee of the NF Railway.
It may be mentioned here that an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on June 20 notifies that all central government establishments must send detailed monthly reports of how many central government employees were reviewed and how many were recommended for premature retirement. Those who are disqualified will be given three-month notice to retire from service.
The protesters also sent a memorandum to the Railway Minister regarding the issue.
