Ranji Trophy : UP mount pressure on Assam

Uttar Pradesh ended Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy encounter with Assam on 377 for the loss of 5 wickets. The home side thereby built up a lead of 202 runs over Assam after the visitors were bundled out for 175 runs just before Tea break in the match being played at Kanpur.

UP had a brilliant start to their innings in the evening session on Day 1. Number three batsman Mohammad Saif scored a hard fought 58 off 113 balls to stabilize UP's start on Day 2. Captain Akshdeep Nath gave him support in the middle order scoring 81(143) which included 10 fours.

At the end of Day 2 on Tuesday, Rinku Singh (96 n.o. off 143 balls) and Upendra Yadav (38 n.o. off 83 balls) were on the crease as U.P. closed the day on 377/5. Assam used 7 bowlers out of which Arup Das, Ranjit Mali, Mukhtar Hussain, Jitumani Kalita and Gokul Sharma took one wicket a piece.

Earlier Assam had a disastrous start to the match after they were reduced to 27/5 in only 11.2 overs on Day 1. Pallav Kumar Das (75 runs off 105 balls) and Swarupam Purkayastha (35 runs off 63 balls) were two notable scorers for Assam in the match. For UP, Saurav Kumar and Yash Dayal scalped three wickets each.
