Restrictions Reimposed in Parts of Srinagar

Restrictions were tightened in some parts of Srinagar on Sunday following incidents of violence a day earlier, even as the first batch of Haj pilgrims returned to Kashmir from Saudi Arabia.

The addedrestrictions continued in many parts of the Valley for the 14th dayon Sunday.

Accordingto officials, restrictions were reimposed in certain areas which witnessedtrouble on Saturday after the curbs were eased in several areas of the city andelsewhere in the valley.

The officialsalso said that the protests took place at around a dozen places in whichseveral protestors were injured. According to report, the exact number ofinjuries was not available.

However,the flights carrying around 300 pilgrims landed at the Srinagar airport in themorning. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth movement ofpilgrims to their respective destinations.

The officialsalso informed that only one family member is allowed at the airport to receivethe Hajis. A fleet of the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses hasbeen deployed to facilitate the movement of Hajis and their relatives with thecoordination of all district administrations.

GovernmentSpokesperson Rohit Kansal said that the restrictions were eased in 35 policestation areas of the valley but as several places witnessed clashes betweengroups of youth and security forces, restrictions have been reimposed inSrinagar.

On Saturday,protests took place at six places in the valley in which eight persons sufferedinjuries.
