Assam Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora on Wednesday gave Zero Hour Notice in the Upper House of the Parliament over privatisation of 64 oil fields. He opposed the proposed privatization of these oil fields.
It may be mentioned here that recently, the Ministry of Petroleum has invited tender for privatisation of oil fields across the country.
“It is very unfortunate that the Ministry of Petroleum has invited tender for privatisation of these 64 oil fields,” the MP said, adding, “These oil fields are under maintenance of ONGC and Oil India Limited. And these organisations are two of the biggest profit making public sector undertakings, which are also giving employment opportunities to lakhs of youths.”
Bora also said that since both ONGC and OIL are earning profits for the country, the same will also go to the private sector.
“This is not in the interest of our country. This is not in the interest of the economy of our country,” the senior Congress MP said and appealed that the petroleum minister should stop this privatisation process.
The Zero Hour refers to the time immediately following the Question Hour in both the Houses of Parliament. During this hour, MPs can raise matters of great importance without the mandatory ten days advance notice.
