The announcement of the stoppage of dredging of river Brahmaputra has come to a sigh of relief to all the environmentalist as well as specialist of river Brahmaputra as all in unison opposed it and terming the whole project as too utopian.

Talking to Pratidin Time, APCC President Ripun Bora took a jibe at BJP government for maintaining double standards on dredging of river Brahmaputra.

"The initiative had been taken by the Govt. of Assam as a solution to the mayhem of flood and erosion that has gobbled up a huge mass of land on both bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra is the dredging of the river. Despite its commitment, the much-trumpeted dredging in the river Brahmaputra has formally come to a nought with the announcement in the Parliament by the Union water resource Minister that not only it was possible but also no attempt should also be made as the river too strong and carries too much silt. The state government is giving lollipops to the people of Assam." : Bora said.

The announcement of Minister of State for Jal Shakti Rattan Lala Kataria in parliament made it clear that no matter how much the various individuals and organisations from Assam put pressure on the Centre or rant slogans to declare Assam flood as a national disaster, but in reality, this is never going to happen.
