The government has sanctioned Rs 5 crore to set up 10 new mini cinema halls across the state. Reports said that five halls are pre-existing and will only undergo renovation, five brand new halls will be set up under the project.
Construction works are expected to begin before the end of this year.
Chairman of Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Ltd. Jatin Bora informed that proposals for 35 cinema halls were received to be opened in the state. He also said that by October this year five new movie halls would be opened while five old halls would be renovated.
Earlier, the chief minister said that a seven-member committee would also be formed with various stakeholders to examine the feasibility of cinema hall locations and selecting beneficiaries for receiving government financial assistance for opening halls.
