RSS wants Rajen Gohain to resign from Union Council of Ministers

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) , the ideological head of BJP has conveyed its message to Minister of State ( MoS) for Railways, Rajen Gohain to resign from the Union Council of Ministers after 'rape' allegation against the minister had surfaced and subsequently a case under IPC 376 was registered against him.

Rajen Gohain, a BJP strongman in Assam was inducted into the Union Council of Ministers in last ministerial reshuffle by Prime Minister Modi. Gohain is a four times MP from Nagaon constituency in the state.

Ahead of the 2019 general election, the RSS has made extensive survey across the country on BJP's winning prospects in Lok Sabha constituencies. RSS also was in search for new and prominent faces for the party for 2019 general election.

After the rape allegation was made against the MoS for Railways, BJP's rival Congress demanded the minister to quit from the Modi ministry. Congress also asked Prime Minister Modi to remove Gohain from the office.

But Gohain dismissed the allegation leveled against him and said that before every Lok Sabha election , grave allegations have been made against the ministry but every time, it was proved wrong. "This was a conspiracy against me", said Gohain.

RSS viewed that if Gohain continued to be in the Modi ministry, then opposition would have a point to make allegation against BJP, which is likely to hurt BJP's winning prospects in Nagaon constituency. Sources in both Assam BJP and RSS said that after the 'rape allegation' against Gohain, the saffron ideological head was in search for a new BJP face for Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.

Assam Police have registered a case against Gohain for allegedly raping and threatening a 24-year-old married woman in Nagaon district. Gohain has also filed complaints of blackmailing against the woman and her family.
