Sand-stone Syndicate Continues Unabated in BTAD
There is a flourishing syndicate trade of stone and sand by a section of unscrupulous contractors and businessmen in the state – who have been supplying these materials from Assam to Bhutan via Meghalaya.
The sand-stone syndicate is being run in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), and allegedly the forest, police and transport department are aware of the syndicate.
As per reports, 60-70 trucks and dumpers pass through Indo-Bhutan border on daily basis.
Sources divulged that the trucks and dumpers of politically-backed businessmen take multiple trips without challan and carry excess load than permitted, thereby causing huge revenue loss to the government.
The dubious roles of the district administration, district transport office personnel and forest officials have largely been questioned by conscious circles.
