The Supreme Court on Thursday took a firm stand that the final Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) list should be published by August 31, 2019.
"Under no circumstances should the publication of the final NRC be stretched beyond August 31," court says.
The Court further instructed Hajela to ignore criticism of NRC process inside and outside Assembly and get ready to publish on or before August 31.
"We will not be bothered by what others say about our orders and judgments. We will continue to oversee NRC finalised as per the scheduled date of August 31" : Supreme court.
The Court also reserved the order on the citizenship status of people, born in India between 1971 and 1987, and who were not included in the NRC list.
Earlier, NRC co-coordinator Prateek Hajela had sought directions on what happens to those who are born before December 2004 if one of their parents is a declared foreigner.
