SC Pulls Up NCPCR For Tussle in Child Trafficking Case

The SupremeCourt on Tuesday pulled up the National Commission for Protection of ChildRights (NCPCR) and the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights(WBCPCR) for their tussle in a child trafficking matter.

The matterrelates to the issue of children being trafficked from an orphanage in WestBengal.

The SupremeCourt said that it is not bothered about the Centre or State Commissions butabout the girl victims.

A bench ofSupreme Court Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose while coming downheavily on the two commissions said that it is very unfortunate that twostatutory bodies are fighting like this in a trafficking case.

The benchfurther said that it is very sad that the two commissions cannot findconclusion for the welfare of the children.

The courtlisted the case for further hearing on Wednesday.

The top courtwas hearing a petition filed by the NCPCR against an earlier Calcutta HighCourt ruling in which the court restrained the national child rights body fromgetting involved in the issue of child trafficking in West Bengal since thestate commission had already been apprised of the situation.

Moreover, theNational Commission had asked Additional Director General of Police (ADGP),CID, West Bengal Police Rajesh Kumar to ascertain the facts related totrafficking in an orphanage in Jalpaiguri.
