The Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) is set to introduce commerce as an elective subject for Class IX and X from the next academic session.
According to report, the board will introduce commerce textbooks for both the classes from 2020 and 2021. Sources from the board said that they have decided to introduce the subject in the school level to make a strong foundation for the students who want to pursue their higher studies in the commerce studies.
The source further informed that the basic knowledge of comerce like banking, accountancy, insurance etc. is the need of the hour for every student and the purpose of bringing it for Class IX and X students is to prepare the students for future so that they can perform well in Class XII and further.
It is to be mentioned that many students pursue commerce in Class XII but as it is a complete new subject it becomes difficult for some students to cope up with the subject. So, the board has decided to introduce in Class IX and X for the convenient of the students.
SEBA has also introduced employment-oriented subjects like healthcare, private security, agriculture and horticulture from 2018.
