Assam police has imposed Section 144 in West Guwahati barring congregation of more than five people with effect from November 7.
According to a press release issued by the DC office, it is reckoned that some groups of persons or organizations are likely to carry out agitation/demonstration or shouting of slogans in the area which may cause breach of peace and public order, causing disturbance of peaceful movement of public, traffic and also normal functioning of offices.
It added that agitation or procession as well as assembly of more than five people in areas including Bharalumukh, Fatasil Ambari, Gorchuk, Jalukbari and Azara is prohibited without prior permission from the competent authority.
The press release further stated that no landlords of any property which falls under the jurisdiction of West police district of Guwahati shall be allowed to rent out any accommodation to any person unless and until he has furnished the particulars of the said tenant to the Officer-in charge of the concerned police station.
