The Sikkim Progressive Youth Forum (SPYF) on Saturday said that theywould launch a state-wide movement against the recent switching of Sikkim DemocraticFront (SDF) legislators to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Sikkim KrantikariMorcha (SKM).
SPYF has announced that as a part of a series of state-wideprotest, it would start from a mass-protest rally on Sunday in Gangtok.
SPYF member, Shankar Sharma said that the mandate of the peoplehas been overlooked in the recent political development in the state. He furthersaid that the people have been considered as the most powerful in democracy andit is the people who choose their representatives to work in their interest.
He also stated that the SDF has been kept in opposition aspeople voted for SKM but due to the defection of SDF legislators to anotherparty that received 1.62 percent votes became the main opposition party in theassembly adding that if the people's representatives would not respect thepeople's mandate then there was no use of the election.
He said that instead of conducting election, the representativescould be selected through tender or auction saying that the present defectionwas totally unacceptable.
Sharma later said that they have decided to take the movementahead through the Citizen Forum against defected MLAs and that it is an openforum for all to come together. He said that their movement will continue untilthese defected MLAs resign on moral grounds.
