Sitajakhala Gives September 30 Deadline To Fulfill Demands

In adiscussion held on Wednesday between Sitajakhala dairy farmers and Cooperativedepartment at Dispur regarding the ongoing protest against the National DairyDevelopment Board (NDDB), the farmers demanded a local board to control thedairy farm.

The discussionwas held under the Chairmanship of Minister Rihon Daimary and Minister PijushHazarika was also present in the meeting. Representatives of Purabi Dairy werealso present in the meeting.

The dairyfarmers said that they are hopeful as the government has listened to them andthat they have given a time up to September 30 to fulfill their demand. Talkingto reporters, the dairy farmers said that they want a local board to controlthe dairy farm instead of NDDB. "We will again sit in the discussion afterSeptember 30 and that the protests have been withdrawn as of now," the farmerssaid.

The farmerssaid that they opposed some clause of Trilateral Agreement and asked thegovernment to withdraw those clauses.

MinisterRihon Daimary while speaking to media after the discussion said that thediscussion was fruitful and that the government will look after the issue. He saidthat both Purabi Dairy and the local farmers should run their business and thelocal farmers should also get their requisite amount.
