Sitharaman Stresses on New-Age Skills For Youth

Presenting the first budget of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2.0 Cabinet, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said that the government will focus on imparting new-age skills in areas like artificial intelligence, internet of things, big data, 3-D printing, virtual reality and robotics to equip youth to take up high-paying jobs overseas.

Sitharaman, while presenting her budget referred tothe concept of Kayakave Kailasa (work is worship) to highlight that thegovernment enables about 10 million youths to take up industry relevant skilltraining through the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, helping create alarge pool of skilled manpower.

The finance minister, while pointing out thatdemographic trends world-wide show that major economies will face severe labourshortages in the future, she said that to prepare the youth of the country totake jobs overseas, the government will increase focus on skill-sets neededabroad including language training. She also said that they will also lay focuson new-age skills like artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, big data,3-D printing, virtual reality and robotics.
