Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has inaugurated Gandhi Park at Gandhi Mandap in Gandhibasti under the aegis of Kamrup Metro administration and Smart City on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Wednesday.
The Gandhi Park has been constructed under the supervision of Smart City with a cost of Rs. 2crores 56lakhs. The park has been constructed within six months.
The park has a newly constructed bridge, a platform and a pathway for the visitors.
State Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharyya, DC Kamrup (M) Biswajit Pegu and other officials of the administration were also present on the occasion along with the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister and Education Minister also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Mandap.
On the other hand, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi has been celebrated in Guwahati along with the rest of the state and Fit India Plogging has been observed under the aegis of Kamrup Metro district administration.
The Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M) Biswajit Pegu along with other officials have come out for jogging by taking paper bags in hand to create awareness against plastic and to make the city free from plastic.
The officials along with the DC were seen cleaning up plastics by wearing hand gloves.
Moreover, a cycle rally has also been organized from Dighalipukhuri under the aegis of Assam Tourism to mark the tourism festival from October 2 to October 13.
