Spicejet Airlines has decided to suspend its flight services to Lilabari Airport in Lakhimpur, Assam from June 30 which is nearly four and half months after its operation.
It was on January 15 that Spicejet operated direct flight on the Kolkata-Lilabari route on daily basis as part of the UDAN scheme. The Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme was launched by the union ministry of Civil Aviation’s that aims to connect small towns of the country but it proves to be a total farce for people living in the northeastern part of Assam and the neighbouring areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
On May 20 last, Spicejet Airlines informed the Lilabari Airport Director that it would suspend its flight to the airport from June 1 till further notice. The Airlines, however, extended the suspension in this route to a fortnight and then to another 15 days. The Airlines will now suspend its flight SG 3345 and SG 3346 from July 1 onwards.
