In an encounter between the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Maoists, a jawan was killed today in Dumka at Jharkhand.
According to a senior police official, a search operation was going on when Maoists opened fire on jawans at around 3.30 am on Sunday in the forest of Taldangal in Dumka district.
Superintendent of Police (SP) YS Ramesh said that in the retaliatory action, at least five Maoists received bullets as they retreated into the forest.
It has been reported that SSB jawan Niraj Chetri was killed while Rajesh Kumar Rai, Sonu Kumar, Satish Gujar and Karan Kumar were injured.
Rai was airlifted to Ranchi for treatment while others were admitted to the Dumka Sadar hospital as informed by the police.
