Koliabor Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi has asked union HRD Ministry to ensure inclusion of information on the lives and works of Mahapurush Sankardeva, Swahid Kushal Konwar, Kamala Miri and Chabilal Upadhyaya in the new NCERT curriculum.
In a letter to the Union HRD Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Gogoi stated that Sankardeva’s literary and artistic contributions are living traditions in Assam today. He said that Sankardeva is the father figure in the cultural and religious history of Assam.
Gogoi in his letter also mentioned about Swahid Kushal Konwar who sacrificed his life at the prime of his youth for the cause of the country saying that the present generation can take a leaf out of his life and emulate his patriotism and spirit of self-sacrifice.
Similarly, Kamala Miri and Chabilal Upadhayay were also prominent leaders of the Indian Freedom Movement from Assam and therefore all these names should be included in the NCERT syllabus, Gaurav said.
